It remains to be seen how much Manning and many of the Colts' other marquee players will play against the Falcons. Dungy insists he is treating this like a normal first preseason game, despite the emphasis placed on it by the NFL.

That usually translates into Manning, wide receiver Marvin Harrison, running back Edgerrin James and several other players barely working up a sweat. In last year's preseason opener against San Diego, Dungy began pulling his "stars" after a pair of three-and-out offensive series. Manning attempted just four passes. James ran twice.

However, it won't be a shock if Dungy deviates from the approach he took against the Chargers.

"We all want to play a little more than people think," Manning said.

Don't be surprised if many of the Colts' front-line players are on the field more against Atlanta and hardly at all in the team's home preseason opener Aug. 13 against Buffalo.

Although Mora didn't plan to use his starters more than a series or two against the Colts, the worn artificial turf at the Dome and a field crew's lengthy effort to properly cover the dirt patch around third base firmly sealed his plan.
